Anxiety is a normal reaction to new or stressful situations in life. If it becomes excessive or impacts on functioning, it is a signal of a more serious situation that requires treatment. Irrational fear, worry and rumination are among some of the symptoms that can occur and may result in feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

Anxiety disorders vary and may present in different forms such as phobias, agoraphobia,  social phobias, panic attacks, and generalized anxiety disorders.

Therapy is helpful in identifying triggers and developing strategies to gain mastery over symptoms, cope more effectively and resolve issues. A careful assessment and history of symptoms will be made in order to decide the most effective form of treatment. At times, referrals to psychiatrists for medication will be made.
